Haryana celebrates Dussehra with 221-foot effigy of Ravana

Haryana's Panchkula city is gearing up for a grand Dussehra celebration featuring an unusually tall effigy of the mythological demon king Ravana. The colossal structure, standing 221 feet high, will be erected in Sector-5 of the city for the traditional burning ceremony that marks the triumph of good over evil.

The construction of the towering effigy has required significant investment, with organisers spending approximately 34 to 35 lakh rupees on its fabrication. The structure represents one of the more elaborate Dussehra displays in the region, reflecting the scale of preparations undertaken by local authorities and community organisers.

In a move reflecting growing environmental consciousness, the immolation of the Ravana effigy will utilise eco-friendly firecrackers rather than conventional explosives. This decision aligns with broader efforts across Indian cities to reduce air pollution during the festive season while maintaining traditional celebration practices.

The event is expected to draw significant crowds from across the region, with Panchkula's Sector-5 becoming a focal point for Dussehra festivities this year.
