Haryana enforces PUC verification at petrol pumps from October 1

The Haryana transport department has issued a directive requiring all petrol pumps in the NCR region to verify valid pollution under control (PUC) certificates before refuelling vehicles, effective October 1. This enforcement mechanism represents a significant shift in the state's approach to vehicle emissions management, placing verification responsibility directly on fuel retailers.

Under the new protocol, petrol pump attendants will be required to check the validity of PUC certificates displayed by vehicle owners before allowing fuel purchases. Vehicles without current or valid certificates will be denied access to fuel supplies. The directive aims to create a tangible incentive for vehicle owners to maintain their environmental compliance documentation.

The transport department issued the directive on October 30, giving fuel retailers a brief window to implement the necessary verification procedures and inform customers of the new requirement. This enforcement initiative complements existing traffic police operations and adds an additional layer of environmental compliance monitoring across the region.

The measure is expected to reduce the number of non-compliant vehicles on roads while encouraging owners to regularly renew their PUC certificates. Vehicle owners are advised to ensure their pollution control certificates are current and readily available when refuelling.
