The Haryana cabinet has cleared amendments to the state's Agniveer employment policy, granting significant advantages to former service members seeking government positions. Under the approved changes, ex-Agniveers will be exempted from written examinations typically required for direct recruitment to Group-C posts covered under the policy framework.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced the decision, signalling the state government's commitment to supporting veterans of the armed forces recruitment scheme. The exemption applies specifically to Group-C category roles, which form a substantial portion of government employment opportunities at the state level.
The Agniveer scheme, introduced nationally by the defence ministry in 2022, recruits personnel for short-term military service with prospects for permanent retention. The policy has generated significant interest among job seekers, and states have subsequently introduced complementary employment schemes to absorb trained ex-Agniveers into civilian government positions.
By waiving examination requirements for these candidates, Haryana seeks to provide a clear pathway to government employment for individuals who complete their military service. The amendment addresses concerns raised by Agniveer aspirants regarding employment opportunities following their service tenure.
The decision reflects growing recognition among state administrations of the need for structured incentive mechanisms to support military service veterans' transition to civilian employment.
