A young man in Faridabad fell victim to an elaborate online fraud scheme that lured him with promises of substantial monthly earnings, authorities said. The victim was approached via Facebook with an offer to earn between 20,000 and 30,000 rupees per assignment as an escort, police said.
The fraudsters collected payment in nine installments totaling 89,750 rupees, citing charges for registration, massage kits, and hotel access cards. After waiting more than two months, the victim received no assignments or work opportunities, prompting him to report the matter to authorities.
The Cyber Crime Cell of Faridabad Police has registered a case and initiated an investigation into the scam. Officials said the scheme targeted unemployed youth seeking quick income and exploited their financial vulnerabilities through social media platforms.
The incident highlights the growing menace of online employment frauds targeting young people across northern India. Authorities have advised citizens to exercise caution when responding to lucrative job offers on social media and to verify legitimacy before making any payments.
