A strike by employees of the state power distribution company has triggered widespread blackouts across multiple cities in Haryana, including Gurugram and Faridabad. The industrial action is also compounding existing water supply challenges in the affected regions.

Gurugram and several other cities across Haryana are grappling with acute power cuts following a strike called by workers of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), the state-owned electricity distribution company. The industrial action has disrupted supply to consumers across Gurugram, Faridabad, Nuh and surrounding municipalities, leaving residents and businesses without reliable access to electricity.
The strike by DHBVN employees has compounded existing infrastructure challenges in the region. Water shortages are also being reported simultaneously across affected areas, creating a dual crisis for residents already struggling with erratic utility supply. The timing of the labour action has heightened concerns about essential service delivery in the densely populated districts.
DHBVN operates as the primary electricity distribution agency across southern Haryana, serving millions of consumers. The current work stoppage represents a significant disruption to the power grid, with outages reported across residential, commercial and industrial zones. Local authorities have not yet announced specific timelines for resolution of the dispute or restoration of normal services.
The simultaneous shortages of power and water highlight the interconnected nature of critical infrastructure in the region, where many water treatment and pumping facilities depend on uninterrupted electricity supply. Residents have expressed frustration over the cascading impact of the disruptions on daily life and economic activity.
