Hasmah was cheerful day before death, son says

The son of Hasmah Mohamad, wife of former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, has recalled that his mother seemed healthy and content during family visits the day before her death. Mokhzani Mahathir told media that Hasmah, who was being treated at IJN (Institut Jantung Negara), had appeared cheerful while spending time with relatives. The unexpected downturn in her condition occurred on Thursday morning, he added. Hasmah's sudden health decline came as a shock to the family, given her apparent wellness the previous day. The death of Hasmah, who had been married to Mahathir for over six decades, marks the end of a significant chapter in Malaysian public life, as she had been a prominent figure alongside her husband during his lengthy political career.
