Hassan hostel students demand privacy, basic amenities from authorities

Students residing at a girls' hostel in Hassan have mounted a demonstration demanding urgent improvements to basic amenities and living conditions at the facility. The protest has brought to light significant issues affecting the welfare of approximately 110 residents housed at the institution.

According to Sushma D.S., district secretary of the All India Democratic Students Organisation, the hostel's windows directly face the main road but lack curtains or other coverings. This design flaw leaves residents without adequate privacy, a fundamental requirement for any residential facility housing students.

The absence of basic amenities and privacy measures raises broader questions about the standards maintained at girls' hostels across the region. Educational institutions and relevant authorities are expected to ensure that student accommodation meets minimum living standards and provides a safe, dignified environment.
