Haze conditions persist across 25 Malaysian locations as air quality deteriorates

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — Twenty-five locations across Malaysia were experiencing unhealthy air quality levels as of 4pm today, according to the latest air quality data released by authorities. The Klang Valley area of Batu Muda emerged as the worst-affected zone, registering the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings among monitored stations nationwide. The deterioration in air quality has prompted health officials and environmental agencies to remain on alert as haze conditions persist across the country. Residents in affected areas have been advised to limit outdoor activities and take necessary precautions, particularly vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. Authorities have not specified the primary sources of the current haze, though transboundary pollution and local atmospheric conditions are typically the main contributing factors during such episodes. The Environmental Quality Act permits the declaration of emergency measures should air quality readings in any area exceed hazardous thresholds. Weather forecasts and atmospheric dispersion models are being closely monitored to assess whether conditions are expected to improve or deteriorate further in the coming days.
