KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — Malaysia's air quality crisis deepened on Tuesday, with haze conditions expanding across multiple regions despite modest relief in some areas. Five monitoring stations in Sarawak reported hazardous air quality levels, while a total of 23 stations nationwide recorded unhealthy readings during the afternoon period.
The Klang Valley, which has borne the brunt of recent air pollution, showed slight improvement compared to earlier measurements. However, the expansion of haze to additional areas in Sarawak signals that the air quality crisis remains widespread across the country.
The deteriorating conditions underscore the persistent transboundary pollution challenges facing Malaysia. Residents in affected areas have been advised to limit outdoor activities and use appropriate respiratory protection, particularly for vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.
Authorities continue to monitor air quality levels across the nation. Further updates on air quality indices and regional variations are expected as conditions continue to evolve.
