ISKANDAR PUTERI: Five flights were disrupted at Senai International Airport on Monday due to haze, prompting carriers to divert services to Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Singapore's Changi Airport.

The atmospheric haze reduced visibility at the airport in Johor, creating operational challenges for ground handlers and flight crews. Airport authorities managed the situation by coordinating diversions to nearby major hubs better equipped to handle increased traffic during the weather event.

Affected passengers experienced delays as airlines worked to reschedule services and organise alternative routing. The diversions to KLIA and Changi represented a significant logistical shift for carriers and ground support teams.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of regional airports to haze events that periodically affect Southeast Asia. Senai International Airport serves as a key transportation hub for southern Peninsular Malaysia, and such disruptions can ripple across the region's travel network.

Airport operations gradually normalised as atmospheric conditions improved throughout the day.
