Smoke plumes originating from active fire hotspots in Indonesian Kalimantan and Sarawak have triggered a sharp deterioration in air quality across multiple regions of Malaysia and Singapore, according to regional monitoring authorities. The transboundary haze has spread to western Sarawak and southern Sabah, with southern Peninsular Malaysia also experiencing the effects of the pollution.

The Asean haze monitoring centre attributed the widespread air quality degradation to prevailing wind patterns carrying smoke from the Indonesian fire zones across international borders.
