Four locations spanning Sarawak and the federal capital recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings on Tuesday, signalling a return of transboundary haze affecting the region. Three areas within Sarawak and one monitoring station in Kuala Lumpur registered levels classified as unhealthy for sensitive groups or the general population.
The API measurement system categorizes air quality on a scale where readings above 100 are considered unhealthy, posing respiratory risks to vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
Environmental authorities have intensified air quality monitoring across affected regions, with the public advised to check real-time API data before engaging in outdoor activities. Residents in areas registering poor air quality are encouraged to wear protective masks and limit outdoor exposure during peak pollution hours.
