HCL Technologies opens chip design centres for Japanese semiconductor firm Rapidus

HCL Technologies and Rapidus Corporation, a Japanese developer and manufacturer of advanced logic semiconductors, formally launched two dedicated engineering centres in Bengaluru and Hubli on Monday. The facilities are designed to address Rapidus' expanding semiconductor engineering requirements and draw on HCL's established core competencies in the sector.

The centres will provide a comprehensive range of semiconductor design and development services, including mask design, design infrastructure, process design kit development, design technology co-optimisation, and layout design. These capabilities align with Rapidus' strategic focus on developing cutting-edge logic semiconductor technologies.

Beyond immediate technical support, HCL Technologies will collaborate with Rapidus to cultivate a pipeline of Indian engineering talent capable of meeting the Japanese chipmaker's long-term staffing needs both in India and Japan. The partnership reflects growing efforts by Indian IT services firms to support international semiconductor manufacturers amid global efforts to diversify chip production.

Rapidus, backed by the Japanese government, has been expanding its global engineering partnerships as it works to establish Japan as a major semiconductor manufacturing hub. The collaboration with HCL Technologies represents a significant step in securing specialist engineering resources to support its advanced chip development initiatives.
