HDB launches nearly 8,000 flats as income eligibility rules relax

Singapore's Housing and Development Board is putting nearly 8,000 new Build-to-Order flats on the market following recent policy changes that expand eligibility criteria for public housing purchases. The seven projects span six key planning areas: Bedok, Geylang, Sembawang, Tengah, Toa Payoh and Yishun, offering residents across the island fresh homeownership opportunities.

The expanded income thresholds represent a significant shift in HDB's accessibility framework, enabling a broader segment of the population to qualify for subsidised housing. The increased ceiling removes previous barriers that had excluded some middle-income households from public housing schemes, aligning with government efforts to make homeownership more attainable for working families.

The staggered release across multiple locations is designed to provide choice and geographic diversity for prospective buyers. Each district brings distinct advantages in terms of connectivity, amenities and community infrastructure, allowing purchasers to select locations that best suit their lifestyle and commuting needs.

The initiative underscores the HDB's ongoing commitment to meeting Singapore's housing demand while maintaining affordability principles central to the nation's public housing model. These new units are expected to ease pressures in the resale market while providing first-time buyers with competitively priced options.
