HDFC Bank board shortlists two candidates for top job, seeks RBI nod

The board of HDFC Bank has completed the initial phase of its leadership succession process by shortlisting two candidates for the critical position of managing director and chief executive officer. The names have been submitted to the Reserve Bank of India, which will evaluate the candidates before granting final approval.

Neither the bank nor the central bank disclosed the identities of the shortlisted candidates, maintaining confidentiality in accordance with standard regulatory practice. The move comes as the bank prepares for leadership transition, ensuring continuity at the helm of India's largest private sector lender by market capitalisation.

As part of its broader succession planning strategy, HDFC Bank's board has also appointed Jimmy Tata as an executive director. The appointment strengthens the bank's leadership pipeline and signals the institution's commitment to grooming internal talent for senior management roles.

The board further approved the creation of an additional full-time director position, expanding its leadership structure to accommodate future growth and governance requirements. These moves reflect HDFC Bank's proactive approach to succession management and institutional development as it navigates a dynamic financial services landscape.
