HDFC Bank posted consolidated net profit of ₹19,510 crore in the second quarter of financial year 2026-27, up 4.7% from ₹18,636 crore in the same period a year earlier.
The Mumbai-headquartered lender's net interest income—the difference between interest earned on advances and paid on deposits—expanded by 9.7% year-on-year during the quarter, outpacing the overall earnings growth and signalling improving loan demand across the portfolio.
The divergence between NII growth and net profit expansion reflects elevated operating costs and provisions the bank has maintained amid a competitive lending environment and evolving macroeconomic conditions across India's financial sector.
The results underscore the challenges India's banking system faces in converting stronger credit flows into sharper earnings growth, even as deposit mobilisation remains competitive and asset quality metrics stay under scrutiny.
HDFC Bank continues to position itself as a bellwether for the broader banking sector's performance, with the quarter's metrics likely to influence investor sentiment towards India's financial services space heading into year-end.
