A team of Public Health Inspectors from the Udadumbara Medical Officer of Health office conducted a regulatory inspection of food service establishments in Hunnasgiriya town, which serves as a rest stop for long-distance passenger buses traveling the busy Kandy–Mahiyanganaya corridor.
The inspectors identified serious sanitation violations at two hotels operating in the area, where travellers typically stop for refreshments during their journeys. Following their findings, authorities moved swiftly to close one of the establishments deemed unfit for food service operations.
Official action is being prepared against the proprietors of both hotels. The enforcement action underscores ongoing efforts by public health authorities to maintain food safety and hygiene standards at commercial food establishments serving the traveling public across the region.
The closure marks a significant enforcement step by local health authorities in ensuring that hospitality businesses comply with mandatory sanitation regulations and food safety protocols.
