Health Minister heads to Dili for WHO regional health assembly

Sri Lanka's Health Minister is travelling to Dili to attend the 79th session of the World Health Organisation's South-East Asia Regional Committee, bringing together health officials and policymakers from across the region.

The gathering in East Timor's capital will see representatives from member states deliberate on critical health matters affecting South and South-East Asia. The regional committee serves as the principal governing body for WHO activities within the region, providing a forum for countries to coordinate on disease prevention, health system strengthening, and public health emergencies.

The session provides an opportunity for Sri Lanka to engage with neighbouring health authorities on shared challenges and collaborate on regional health initiatives. Discussions are expected to focus on ongoing priorities including communicable disease control, non-communicable disease management, and health system resilience.

The attendance underscores Sri Lanka's commitment to multilateral cooperation on health matters within the regional framework and its involvement in WHO governance structures that shape health policy across South and South-East Asia.
