Heavy monsoon floods force cancellation of 20 trains across Bihar

Rail operations in Bihar faced significant disruption on September 7 as heavy monsoon rains swelled river levels across the state, forcing authorities to suspend traffic on a critical section of the Patna-Gaya railway corridor. The Punpun river, which flows through Patna, overflowed its banks, rendering Bridge No. 21 between Punpun and Parsabazar unsafe for train operations. Indian Railways responded by cancelling 10 scheduled trains on the route while rerouting 10 others to alternative lines to minimise passenger inconvenience. The decision reflected growing concerns about structural integrity as water levels continued to rise in the region. Officials said the closure would remain in effect until flood waters receded and engineers completed safety inspections of the affected bridge. The disruptions add to mounting transport challenges across Bihar, where heavy rainfall and flooding have impacted multiple infrastructure sectors in recent days.
