Heavy rain and strong winds forecast for Sri Lanka's southwest
While a deep depression currently affecting India's eastern coast will not directly impact the island, Sri Lanka's southwestern regions are expected to experience rainy conditions with winds gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour, the Department of Meteorology has warned.

A deep depression positioned over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal is currently moving in a west-northwesterly direction, with the system crossing the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha in India, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Although the weather system will not have a direct bearing on Sri Lanka, the island's southwestern areas will face prevailing rainy conditions as an indirect consequence. Meteorologists have forecasted strong winds in the region, with gusts expected to reach speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour.
Residents in the southwestern provinces are advised to take necessary precautions against heavy rainfall and strong winds. The Department of Meteorology continues to monitor the system's trajectory and will provide further updates as conditions develop.
The public is urged to remain alert to weather warnings and exercise caution during outdoor activities in affected areas over the coming period.
