Heavy rainfall alert issued across central and northern India
India's meteorological department has warned of heavy to very heavy downpours across multiple states in central, northern and northeastern India on August 21. The warning covers a broad swathe of territory including eastern Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and the western Himalayan region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several states on August 21, as a monsoon system continues to impact large parts of the country. Forecasters have flagged eastern Madhya Pradesh as a particular area of concern, where very heavy precipitation is expected on Friday. The alert extends across a wide geographical area spanning central India through to the northern plains.
Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are also in the alert zone, with the IMD predicting significant rainfall activity in both states over the coming days. The western Himalayan region, which includes parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, is similarly expected to experience heavy downpours. Northeastern states have also been included in the weather warning as moisture-laden winds continue to sweep across the region.
Due to the intensity and spread of the forecast rainfall, residents and authorities in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant. Heavy precipitation can lead to waterlogging in urban areas, flooding in low-lying zones, and potential disruptions to transport and power services. The IMD is continuing to monitor weather patterns closely and is expected to issue updated forecasts as conditions evolve.
