The Department of Meteorology has upgraded a weather system over the East-central and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal from a Depression to a Deep Depression, signaling increased intensity and potential impact on regional weather patterns. The system is currently positioned near Latitude 15.3°N and Longitude 89.7°E, tracking a generally westward trajectory across the bay.
Meteorologists predict the weather system will continue its westward movement while intensifying further, with forecasts indicating it may develop into a cyclonic storm over the coming period. The progression suggests heightened atmospheric activity that could bring severe weather conditions to affected areas in South and Southeast Asia.
Several regions are expected to experience rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres, with the Meteorology Department issuing advisories for residents and authorities to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions. Heavy precipitation, strong winds, and rough sea conditions are anticipated in areas within the system's projected path.
The Department continues to monitor the development closely and is expected to issue updated forecasts and warnings as the system evolves. Residents in vulnerable areas are advised to remain alert to official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
