Heavy rainfall alert issued for coastal Andhra Pradesh districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts on high alert as a weather system is expected to bring significant rainfall to north coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next two days. Heavy to very heavy rain is anticipated on Tuesday and Wednesday, accompanied by strong coastal winds ranging from 40 to 60 kilometres per hour.

Steady showers have already commenced across the coastal belt from Srikakulam to Anakapalli since Monday evening, providing much-needed respite after an extended spell of dry, hot weather. The moisture-laden winds and atmospheric conditions are favouring the continuation and intensification of precipitation across the region.

Authorities in the affected districts have been advised to remain vigilant and prepare for potential flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas. The forecast rainfall is expected to ease dry conditions that have persisted over the past several days, though residents and officials have been cautioned to exercise caution during the heavy downpour period.

The IMD's forecast underscores the onset of monsoon activity in the region, which typically brings seasonal rainfall patterns to coastal Andhra Pradesh during this period. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea given the expected wind speeds and rough sea conditions.
