Heavy rainfall alert issued for five provinces across Sri Lanka

The North Central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and North Western provinces are expected to experience heavy rain in the coming period, according to weather forecasts issued by the Meteorology Department.

Rainfall accumulations of around 100 mm are anticipated in parts of these regions, prompting authorities to monitor weather conditions closely. Such precipitation levels can lead to waterlogging, flash flooding, and increased risk of landslides, particularly in vulnerable hilly and mountainous terrain.

Residents and communities in the affected provinces have been advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant during the forecasted period. Relevant authorities have been alerted to prepare contingency measures and ensure drainage systems are functioning adequately to manage excess water runoff.
