Heavy rainfall alert issued for multiple provinces across Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology forecast atmospheric conditions conducive to thundershowers developing across numerous parts of Sri Lanka during afternoon and evening hours today. The weather phenomenon is expected to affect multiple regions, with varying intensity throughout the day.

Areas in the North Central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and North Western provinces face the greatest risk of heavy precipitation. The meteorological department indicated that rainfall in these zones could exceed 100 millimetres, potentially creating hazardous conditions in vulnerable areas.

Thundershowers are expected to develop intermittently rather than continuously, with the highest probability during afternoon and evening periods. Residents in affected regions have been advised to remain alert to weather updates and take necessary precautions against potential flooding and landslides.

The Department of Meteorology continues to monitor atmospheric conditions and will issue further updates if weather patterns change significantly. Authorities in affected provinces have been advised to remain on standby for potential emergency response operations.
