Heavy rainfall expected across central and eastern Sri Lanka
The Department of Meteorology has warned of significant precipitation across multiple provinces on Monday afternoon, with some areas potentially receiving more than 50 millimetres of rain.

Showers and thundershowers are forecast to develop across the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as parts of the Central highlands, with activity intensifying from 2.00 p.m. onwards on Monday, 29 September.
The meteorological department has flagged the likelihood of fairly heavy showers exceeding 50 millimetres at isolated locations within these regions. Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts are also included in the warning zone and are expected to experience similar weather conditions during the afternoon and evening hours.
Residents and travellers in the affected areas are advised to remain alert for potential flooding in low-lying zones and localised landslip risks, particularly in hilly terrain. The rainfall is expected to ease during the late evening hours as the weather system moves through the region.
