Heavy rainfall expected across four southern districts today

The Department of Meteorology has issued rainfall warnings for Wednesday, alerting the public to expect significant precipitation across the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces. Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Rathnapura districts face the highest risk, with forecasters predicting fairly heavy falls of more than 50 millimetres at scattered locations.

Beyond the southern regions, the North Western Province will also experience multiple spells of showers, while the central highlands including Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts are similarly expected to record substantial rainfall during the period.

The wider weather pattern indicates intermittent showers across the island, with the intensity varying by location. Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, particularly in regions prone to flooding and landslides. The Department of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the weather system and will issue updates as conditions develop.
