Heavy rainfall expected across island as monsoon conditions intensify

Morning mist is expected to blanket parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces during early daylight hours on Tuesday, according to the meteorological department's latest forecast issued at 5:30 a.m.

Widespread precipitation is anticipated to develop across most areas of the island from 1:00 p.m. onwards, with showers and thundershowers becoming the dominant weather pattern. The rainfall is expected to intensify particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Mannar district, where accumulated precipitation may exceed 75 millimetres in isolated locations.

The forecast suggests unstable atmospheric conditions will persist throughout the day, necessitating precautions for travel and outdoor activities. Residents in affected regions are advised to monitor further meteorological updates as the system develops.
