Showers and thundershowers are expected to develop across the majority of Sri Lankan territory from 1:00 p.m. onwards on Wednesday, according to the Department of Meteorology's latest weather advisory.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 millimetres is anticipated in selected locations across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and North-Western provinces. The Southern province, along with the Anuradhapura and Mannar districts, have also been identified as areas likely to experience significant precipitation.
Meteorological authorities have issued the forecast to alert residents and authorities in affected regions to prepare for potentially disruptive weather conditions. Communities in the identified high-risk areas are advised to take necessary precautions against flooding and landslides, particularly in elevated terrain.
Residents are urged to monitor official weather updates and heed guidance from relevant government departments as conditions develop throughout the afternoon and evening.
