A low-level atmospheric disturbance persisting over the Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka is expected to maintain cloud cover and elevated rainfall across the island, according to the Department of Meteorology's forecast issued early Tuesday morning.

The heaviest precipitation is anticipated in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, and North-western provinces, along with Anuradhapura district, where showers are predicted to exceed 100 millimetres in some areas. Residents in these regions have been advised to remain alert for weather-related developments.

Beyond the primary rainfall zones, misty conditions are likely to develop at scattered locations across the island. The meteorological department continues to monitor the atmospheric system, with updates expected to be issued as conditions evolve.

The prolonged influence of the Bay of Bengal disturbance has sustained wet weather patterns over recent days, with further impacts anticipated as the system maintains its position relative to the island.
