Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Western and Central Regions

The Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces face the highest risk of heavy downpours on September 12, with the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts also expected to receive substantial rainfall throughout the day. Meteorologists have indicated that multiple spells of showers will impact these regions, with accumulations potentially reaching beyond 50 millimeters in several locations.
The North-Western Province is anticipated to experience lighter conditions, with a few isolated showers likely during the forecast period. However, residents across the northern, north-central, Uva, and eastern provinces should remain alert for scattered showers and thundershowers that may develop at various locations during and after daylight hours.
The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to monitor weather updates closely, particularly those residing in areas prone to flooding or landslides. Commuters and outdoor workers are urged to take necessary precautions given the likelihood of slippery road conditions and reduced visibility during heavy downpours. Authorities recommend avoiding non-essential travel in affected districts during peak rainfall periods.
