Heavy rainfall expected across western and central regions today
Sri Lanka's meteorological authorities warn of significant precipitation as a weakening Bay of Bengal depression continues to influence the island's weather patterns. Rainfall exceeding 75 millimetres is likely in several provinces throughout Wednesday.

The Department of Meteorology reports that a deep depression positioned over the Bay of Bengal is gradually diminishing into a standard depression, with its impact on Sri Lankan weather conditions expected to ease from Wednesday onwards.
Showers and thundershowers are anticipated at intervals across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces. Meteorological officials have flagged the possibility of fairly heavy rainfall in scattered locations within these regions, with some areas potentially receiving precipitation exceeding 75 millimetres.
Residents in affected provinces are advised to exercise caution regarding potential flooding and landslides, particularly in elevated terrain and areas prone to water accumulation. The weather system's gradual weakening suggests conditions will progressively improve as the week progresses.
The Department of Meteorology continues to monitor the system's trajectory and will issue updated forecasts as conditions develop. Weather-dependent activities and transportation in vulnerable areas should be planned with the forecast rainfall in mind.
