The Department of Meteorology has issued advisories for widespread precipitation across the island, with the retreating low-pressure system expected to maintain its influence through Wednesday, October 23rd. Although the system is moving westward away from Sri Lankan territory, residual atmospheric conditions are likely to trigger substantial rainfall in vulnerable regions.
Shower and thundershower activity is forecast to develop intermittently across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, alongside the Northern and North-western administrative zones. The districts of Anuradhapura and Galle are also included in the rainfall warning.
Accumulations exceeding 75mm are anticipated in several localities as the system's effects persist through the day. Residents in these regions are advised to remain alert for potential flooding and landslide risks associated with the heavy downpours.
The meteorological department continues to monitor atmospheric developments and will issue updated forecasts as conditions evolve. Weather-related advisories for affected provinces remain in effect.
