Heavy rainfall expected across Western and Central regions today

Fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 millimetres are likely to occur at isolated locations across the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, according to the Department of Meteorology's Thursday forecast issued at 05:30 a.m.

Misty conditions are expected during early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces. Showers or thundershowers will persist throughout the day in the Southern and Eastern provinces, with Mullaittivu district also experiencing precipitation.

Residents and commuters in the affected regions are advised to exercise caution as road conditions may deteriorate due to heavy rainfall. The meteorological department continues to monitor atmospheric conditions and may issue updated forecasts if weather patterns intensify.

The forecast comes as the southwest monsoon transitions into its later phases, bringing moisture-laden winds to the island's western and southwestern regions.
