Heavy rainfall expected to persist in southwestern Sri Lanka

A depression that has intensified into a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal, positioned northeast of Sri Lanka, is expected to maintain wet conditions across the island's southwestern sector, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Although the weather system will not directly impact Sri Lanka, the prevailing wind patterns directed toward the depression will continue to funnel moisture across the southwestern parts of the country, sustaining rainy conditions in the region.

The department has indicated that several areas face the prospect of heavy rainfall, with precipitation levels exceeding 100mm anticipated in multiple locations. Residents in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant for potential flooding and waterlogging as the rainy spell persists.

The meteorological service continues to monitor the development of the depression and its indirect effects on Sri Lanka's weather patterns, with regular updates expected as the system evolves.
