The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers and thundershowers throughout the day across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western, and Northern provinces. The Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts are also expected to experience rainfall activity.
Meteorologists have flagged the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces as areas of particular concern, where rainfall accumulations may exceed 100 millimetres at certain locations. Such volumes of precipitation within a short timeframe carry potential for flooding and landslides in susceptible areas.
Residents and commuters in the affected regions have been advised to exercise caution and remain alert to weather updates. The Department recommended avoiding unnecessary travel in flood-prone areas and staying informed through official weather bulletins throughout the day.
