Sustained rainfall across southern Tamil Nadu districts has triggered traffic disruptions on critical road networks, with the ghat section connecting Batlagundu to the hill station of Kodaikanal experiencing significant impact from the wet conditions.
In response to the deteriorating weather and road safety concerns, officials from the state highways department have imposed restrictions on heavy vehicle movement along the affected ghat roads from 6 p.m. onwards as a precautionary measure. The move aims to minimize risks posed by reduced visibility and slippery road surfaces during night hours.
The ghat roads, which form an essential transport corridor for the region, have witnessed congestion as authorities enforce the new regulations. Commuters and commercial transport operators have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly, with preference for daytime travel until conditions improve.
The weather system is expected to persist over the coming days, with meteorological officials monitoring the situation closely. Authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas and those traversing mountain routes to exercise caution and remain alert to further updates and advisories.
