Heavy rains expected to batter Metro Manila, Luzon Saturday

Residents of Metro Manila and portions of Luzon should prepare for heavy downpours expected Saturday afternoon, according to an advisory issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The state weather bureau attributed the anticipated rainfall to a combination of localized thunderstorm activity and the effects of the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat. The weather system poses potential risks for flash flooding and landslides in susceptible areas.

The thunderstorm advisory was issued at 2:30 p.m., giving residents several hours to take necessary precautions. Pagasa advised the public to remain vigilant and monitor updates as conditions develop throughout the afternoon and evening.

Residents in low-lying communities and areas prone to flooding are urged to exercise caution and avoid travel during peak rainfall periods. The weather bureau recommends securing loose outdoor items and ensuring adequate drainage in homes and commercial establishments.
