The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh, warning of prolonged wet conditions extending through September 23 as a developing weather system moves toward the eastern coast.
The low-pressure area currently situated over the Andaman Sea is expected to strengthen into a depression and make landfall near the border region of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh around September 23, according to IMD projections. The system's intensification could bring significant rainfall and strong winds to the affected coastal areas.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has activated precautionary measures in response to the forecast. Residents in low-lying areas prone to flooding have been advised to exercise caution and prepare for potential evacuation if necessary. The authority has specifically warned those in vulnerable settlements to remain vigilant.
Fishermen have been directed to cease operations and return to the coast immediately ahead of the approaching system. The advisory comes as a precautionary measure to ensure maritime safety during the severe weather conditions expected in the coming days.
