Heavy rains to drench southern Philippines as weather system moves in

MANILA — Residents across Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao should prepare for heavy downpours on Thursday as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported an intertropical convergence zone moving into the area.

The ITCZ, which forms when opposing trade winds converge near the equator, is expected to trigger substantial rainfall throughout the affected regions, Pagasa said in its latest weather advisory. The system typically brings moisture-laden winds that can produce intense precipitation across broad areas.
