A landslide brought down by heavy downpours in the early hours of Saturday, October 3, blocked a critical road section in Barangay Capaclan, Romblon province. The incident prompted immediate mobilization of disaster response personnel to clear the debris-laden pathway and restore vehicular access.
Personnel from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Romblon Electric Cooperative, and the Provincial Engineering Office coordinated efforts to tackle the obstruction. The multi-agency response aimed to expedite the clearance operation and minimize disruption to local traffic and commerce.
The landslide underscores the region's vulnerability to weather-related hazards during the monsoon season. Romblon, an island province in the Mimaropa region, frequently experiences heavy precipitation that poses risks to road infrastructure and communities in low-lying and hilly terrain.
Local officials have not reported casualties or significant damage to private property from the incident. The provincial government continues to monitor weather conditions and road conditions in the affected area.
