Heavy showers expected across multiple provinces Wednesday afternoon

The Department of Meteorology issued a weather alert Wednesday morning for substantial precipitation across the island throughout the day. Residents in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-western, and Southern provinces should prepare for heavy rainfall, as should those in Polonnaruwa and Mannar districts, where showers are expected to exceed 75 millimetres at some locations.

Early morning conditions will bring misty weather to parts of Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces. However, conditions are forecast to deteriorate significantly from 1.00 p.m. onwards, when showers and thundershowers are expected to spread across most parts of the country.

The forecast follows typical weather patterns for the period and underscores the importance of weather preparedness as the island transitions through the northeast monsoon season. Residents are advised to monitor further updates from the Department of Meteorology for developments.
