Heavy showers expected in western and central regions this afternoon

The Department of Meteorology forecasted substantial precipitation across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Southern provinces beginning after 1.00 p.m. on October 6. Rainfall amounts at some locations are expected to exceed 75 millimetres, potentially creating hazardous conditions in affected areas.
Early morning weather conditions will bring mist to several locations in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, affecting visibility during dawn and early daylight hours. The meteorological department anticipates showers and thundershowers will develop across multiple districts throughout the day.
Residents in the affected provinces have been advised to exercise caution as heavy rainfall and associated thunderstorms could lead to flooding and disruption of normal activities. The alert was issued at 05:30 a.m. on October 6, providing advance notice for residents to make necessary preparations and take appropriate safety measures.
