Heavy showers forecast for eastern and central Sri Lanka
The Department of Meteorology has warned of significant rainfall expected across several provinces on Tuesday afternoon. Showers exceeding 50 millimetres are likely in parts of the Uva, Eastern and Central provinces, as well as Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts.

Meteorological conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for afternoon thundershowers to develop across most regions of the island from Wednesday, October 1st, according to a forecast issued by the Department of Meteorology at 05:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The most intense rainfall is anticipated in the eastern and central parts of the country, where showers exceeding 50 millimetres are expected to occur at some locations after 1:00 p.m. The affected areas include the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as parts of the Central Province, Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts.
In addition to the afternoon thundershower activity, early morning mist is expected to develop at selected locations in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces. Residents and commuters in these areas should exercise caution during the early hours due to reduced visibility.
Members of the public are advised to remain alert to weather updates as atmospheric conditions continue to evolve. The department recommends taking necessary precautions against flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas, particularly in hilly and low-lying regions that may be affected by the anticipated heavy rainfall.
