Heavy showers forecast for Western Province and central highlands

Severe Cyclonic Storm Arnab, positioned over the west-central Bay of Bengal, is currently making landfall along the coast of Andhra Pradesh in India, according to the Department of Meteorology's latest bulletin issued Tuesday morning.

The system's influence is expected to bring considerable rainfall to Sri Lanka's southwestern regions. Several spells of showers are forecast to occur across the Western Province, Sabaragamuwa Province, and the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara through the forecast period.

Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert for potential flooding and landslides, particularly in elevated terrain. The meteorological department has indicated that rainfall intensity may vary, with heavier downpours possible during individual shower spells.

The cyclonic system's trajectory suggests continued weather impacts on the island as it progresses across the region. Authorities recommend that residents monitor official weather updates for any changes to forecasts or warnings.
