The Hanoi–Thai Nguyen Heritage Train commenced operations on a route linking Vietnam's capital with the northern province of Thai Nguyen, providing travelers with an immersive cultural journey. The service represents an effort to develop heritage-based tourism in the region through rail connectivity.
During the journey to Luu Xa Station, passengers have access to local tea and traditional cuisine sourced from communities along the route. The train also features performances of Then folk singing, an indigenous art form accompanied by the Tinh lute—a traditional stringed instrument central to the musical heritage of ethnic communities in northern Vietnam.
The initiative capitalizes on growing interest in experiential and cultural tourism across Southeast Asia. By integrating regional gastronomy, traditional arts, and heritage attractions into a single rail experience, the service seeks to enhance visitor engagement with Vietnam's rich cultural landscape while supporting local communities.
Railway tourism has emerged as a key development strategy for Vietnam, with heritage trains offering an alternative to conventional tourism infrastructure. The Hanoi–Thai Nguyen service joins other regional initiatives aimed at leveraging transportation networks to promote cultural preservation and economic development in provincial areas.
