Hero MotoCorp announced on Thursday its plan to acquire additional shares in Ather Energy as part of a continued strategic partnership with the electric two-wheeler manufacturer. The share purchase, valued at up to Rs 17.58 billion ($184.01 million), marks a significant deepening of the company's commitment to the EV sector during a period of accelerating transition in India's automotive market.
Following the transaction, Hero MotoCorp's stake in Ather Energy will rise from its current level to 32.8 percent, making it one of the company's principal shareholders. The move underscores Hero's confidence in Ather's business model and growth prospects in the rapidly expanding electric scooter segment.
The investment arrives as India's two-wheeler market undergoes a fundamental shift toward electrification, driven by changing consumer preferences, government incentives, and environmental concerns. Ather Energy has emerged as one of the country's leading EV scooter brands, with a growing retail presence and expanding product portfolio.
Hero MotoCorp, India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer by volume, has positioned itself strategically across the country's evolving mobility landscape through ventures in electric vehicles and connected technologies. The fresh investment in Ather represents part of the company's broader portfolio strategy to capture growth opportunities in the EV segment.
