High-Tech Ravana Effigies to Feature Moving Parts, Fiery Special Effects

Alwar in Rajasthan will witness an unusually elaborate Dussehra celebration this year, with authorities planning the immolation of three colossal effigies crafted using cutting-edge mechanical engineering.

The effigies will depict the demon king Ravana at 65 feet, his brother Kumbhakarna at 60 feet, and son Meghnath at 55 feet in height. A team of skilled artisans from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, has undertaken the construction of these figures, incorporating technological innovations that have not been seen in traditional Dussehra celebrations of the region.

Unlike conventional effigies, these mechanized versions will feature animated elements designed to enhance the spectacle. Ravana's neck, arms, legs, and sword will move and rotate, while his eyes and mouth will emit flames through specially engineered pyrotechnic systems. These technological additions aim to modernize the centuries-old ritual while maintaining its cultural significance.

The use of Muslim craftsmen for the construction, a longstanding tradition in many parts of India, underscores the secular nature of the celebration. The artisans have reportedly brought their expertise in metalwork, mechanics, and structural engineering to create what organizers claim will be the region's most technologically advanced Dussehra effigies to date.
