KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has attributed an electric shock incident during a temple procession in Mergong to an electrical arc that occurred when a flagpole made contact with overhead high-voltage power lines.
The utility provider said the flagpole, which was being carried as part of the religious procession, inadvertently came into proximity with the energised transmission lines, creating an electrical arc that posed a safety hazard to participants nearby.
TNB has not disclosed whether anyone sustained injuries from the incident, though the company's statement indicates the matter was serious enough to warrant a formal explanation. The incident highlights the risks associated with large community gatherings and religious processions held near electrical infrastructure.
The national utility did not immediately announce additional safety measures or further investigations into the incident. Temple and community organisers are typically advised to maintain safe distances from overhead power lines when planning processions and outdoor events.
