Himachal Pradesh launches first ozone-based water treatment plant

Chief Minister Sukhu unveiled plans for the advanced water treatment facility at an event in Dehra assembly constituency on Saturday, marking a significant step toward improving water quality across the hill state. The ozone-based system will utilise ozone gas to disinfect water and enhance its taste, addressing longstanding concerns over drinking water quality in the region.
The state government has committed Rs 46 crore to the Dehra project, with plans to extend the technology to other areas following its successful implementation. Officials indicated that the ozone treatment methodology represents an upgrade from conventional water purification systems, offering residents access to safer, better-quality drinking water.
During the address, Sukhu also highlighted the government's broader welfare initiatives, including progress on the Mukhyamantri Ka Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar Yojana. The Chief Minister stated that surveys are underway in panchayats to identify eligible beneficiaries for the scheme, which is slated for rollout on October 2. He emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring marginalised sections of society benefit equitably from state resources.
